National Sales Conference (NSC) 2018, now in its fifth year, easily surpassed its previous largest attendance
NSC, the UK’s only independent CPD accredited sales event, took place at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on 29 November. A record 700 conference delegates had the Ricoh rocking, as they gave a thunderous reception to a superb line-up of speakers.
The delegates – sales leaders, sales directors and sales managers drawn from every corner of British industry – were treated to a powerful presentation from Sir Clive Woodward. The legendary sporting leader – who famously coached England to glory at the 2003 Rugby World Cup, before going on to head a successful Great Britain team at the London 2012 Olympics – provided a fascinating insight into how to build winning teams. He drove home the key message that “winning teams are made up of outstanding individuals”, explaining how, in business and in sport, adopting the right mindset will reap rich rewards. Sales leaders can train themselves, and strengthen their teams, to overcome obstacles and pressure to achieve outstanding performance.
It was a theme that resonated throughout an inspirational day, when delegates also heard from a superb speaker line-up, including:
- Jim Steele, conference host and ‘the codebreaker behind high performers’
- Phil Hesketh, international best-selling author and speaker, and an expert on what makes buyers tick
- Karen Blackett OBE, a marketing industry pioneer and UK trade ambassador, who urged delegates to ‘know yourself and know your customer’
- Steve Head, sales guru and master of motivation, who brought the house down with a series of hard-hitting, but hilarious, home truths.
NSC 2018 featured additional, invaluable breakout sessions delivered by thought-leaders and sales specialists Chris Brindley MBE, Richard Newman, Professor Elizabeth Stokoe, and Shay McConnon. They offered a mix of expert advice and rich entertainment on a day of innovative ideas, practical solutions and excellent networking opportunities.

National Sales Exhibition 2018
Now in its eighth year, the exhibition proved the ideal place for businesses to market their products and services to the UK’s largest gatherings of sales leaders. Delegates were able to mingle freely with conference speakers at the event, as well as tapping into the knowledge and expertise of a host of other sales specialists. Lincoln West’s Steve Lindsey paid tribute to the many excellent exhibitors: “As always we are grateful for their commitment to professional selling, without which we would not have been able to put on such a fantastic event,” he said. “We urge everyone in sales to take the time to look at the fantastic propositions these businesses provide.”
Sales Learning & Development 2018
Running alongside NSC 2018 was Sales Learning & Development (SLD) 2018, sponsored by Showpad, supported by the APS and organised by Lincoln West. This annual event, now a pillar of the sales calendar, provided fascinating insights into how to make the most of your salespeople, with many blue-chip brands represented. SLD is the UK’s only one-day conference for those responsible for developing the skills and performance of sales professionals within their organisation.
NSC 2019 will take place on November 28,
